The garage behind 1234 Charles Ave, St. Paul
(It will be held in the garage. Dress accordingly.)
Jamie is out of the teaching racket these days, so we have another idea for the proceeds.
If we can raise $200 we can buy two orders of textbooks. If we get less than that, we can buy some textbooks and some additional equipment. Thanks in advance for your donations!
Explanation from the SIMS (Serving in Missions) "gift" catalog:
Buy Equipment and Textbooks for Ethiopian Youth
Ethiopia has a large youth population—60 percent of the population is under age 25! Young people have almost no place to go for recreation and positive activities, and so they are often drawn into drugs and other destructive activities. SIM offers young people a safe haven at our youth center in Mekelle, which ministers to 200–300 young people every day and as many as 600 on Saturday.
At Mekelle, they take classes in English, computers, and HIV/AIDS education, and also play football, basketball, volleyball, and other sports—all in a Christian environment. You can impact Ethiopia’s youth by your gift of $25 to supply sports equipment and computers or $100 to supply textbooks for the classes that are their best opportunity to receive an education and prepare for a brighter future. This year's homebrew...
All-grain brewing made its debut at the Fundraiser last year with Don's ESB. Click here to see how this brewing is done.
This year both beers will be made by this labor-intensive, but more pure method. Come and taste them - you will notice a difference. You might be reminded of a quality craft beer from a local brew pub.
Bookish Bitter - Don continues his tradition of offering English style ales at the Fundraiser (Mild, IPA, ESB). A Bitter is the everyday drinking beer in England. Don't let the name fool you, this beer is low on hop bitterness and low in alcohol. It is about being able to easily drink a few in a session without getting too affected. It should be a smooth and delicious drink.
Fifteen Buck Pale Ale - All-grain brewing takes more time, but it costs less per batch. Mike, a second-time Fundraiser brewer, gets frugal with his Fifteen Buck pale ale. It will be loaded with hops, and should have a clean malt profile. There is nothing like a fine homebrewed pale ale made solely from malted barley, hops, yeast, and water.
Mike created a cool poster for his beer.
