Venice, Italy

We had quite a mix up in trying to find our hotel.  We spent a couple hours riding the public transportation (boats) around Venice, getting lost down narrow alley ways, calling our hostess, and eventually we ended up right where we started, the train station.  Anyway, this was the view from the bridge that crosses the Grand Canal in front of the train station.

There are no cars on the main part of the island, so the streets are narrow like you see above.  It's fun to to know the general direction you need to go, and take whatever route to get there that you discover.

Let me tell you, the time of the day in Italy when shadows grow long and provide relief from the sun is a blessed one.  We made it to Piazza San Marco after dinner, as this time of day arrived.  Here you see Basilica San Marco.

The pigeons of Piazza San Marco are well known and thought by many to be an annoyance.  This lad was loving every minute of it.

Looking out over the Grand Canal at another nearby island.
