Munich, Germany

Now we're talking -- Altbier and Weisswurst (white veal sausages served in hot water).  Welcome to Munich baby!

This church, Frauenkirche, has become the symbol of Munich with its onion domes.

How can any self-respecting beer-lover visit Munich and not quaff a liter at the Hofbrauhaus?  I quaffed this, and more.  See my Beer Report for more beer stories and reviews.

There's a wave on the river running through the gigantic Englischer Garten that people surf.  They go back and forth across the river and just dive off when they get tired, if they don't wipe out before then.  It was good fun to watch.  Also, this garten has nude sunbathing areas (no, we didn't) as well as the city's largest biergarten.  It is the largest public park in Europe.

This is the Augustiner Biergarten, considered the best by many locals.  It was quite full this night.  This is really just a small part of the entire thing but you can get the idea, sitting under 100 year old chesnut trees.

.

And what does one eat at a biergarten?

And what does one wash down the pretzel with?

Two pictures of Don holding liters of beer--isn't that overkill?  Not when in Munich.  ;)

I loved Munich.  The beer, the food, the buildings, the biergartens, the beer, the Englischer garten, the pretzels, the breweries, the beer -- all of it.  The above picture is of the coppers at the Spaten/GS brewery, which we just happened by (really).  We also randomly walked by the Lowenbrau brewery one day.
