Hallstatt, Austria

To get to the town from the train stop one must take a ferry across the lake.  This picture was taken after we boarded the ferry, looking towards the town.

A shot of the town square.

The Charnel House contains the remains of 610 villagers dating back to the 16th century and onward.  When the town was running out of room to bury its dead, older remains were transferred to this room near the church.  Basically one person was responsible for all of the skull painting, which is not all that visible in this picture.

We went on a hike and ended up climbing for 2 hours, far past the famous salt mines.  This view is of a town that is not viewable from the shore due to the peninsula in the middle of the picture.

Here I am at the top of our hike.  I was feeling good.  However, I could not go down a stair without wincing in pain for about the next 5 days.  :)   Jamie fared much better on that front than I.

The town has a Catholic church and a Protestant church.  Here you see the Protestant one along with a nice view.

A self-timed picture of us by the lake.
