Island of Capri, Italy

The island of Capri is a strange place.  Buses take you on thrilling (i.e. frightening) rides up winding, mega-narrow roads.  In fact, in many places two cars can not pass side by side.  In other places, the buses slow down when meeting an oncoming one, and they pass each other with about 6 inches between them, as well as 6 inches between the outside wall.  The above picture is of the Faro beach area where we swam on the first day.

A picture from Anacapri, the town where we stayed.  Capri and Anacapri are the two towns on the island.

There is a chair lift you can take that brings you up to Monte Solaro.  This point affords breathtaking views all around the island.  You can take the chair lift, or you can hike.  We hiked.  It only took a half-hour, but it was hot.

The two large rock formations in the center of the picture are an attraction of the island.  One of the beaches we swam in was near them and we could see them as we swam.

(picture borrowed from http://impressive.net/people/gerald/2002/italy/photos.html  I didn't take my camera inside the grotto and even if I would have, this one does a better job showing what it is like inside than I would have).

You can pay about 8 Euros a person for a 5 minute boat ride into the famous, translucent Blue Grotto, or you can wait until the tour boats stop shuttling people in and just swim inside for free.  But if you do...

... be careful you don't skin up your knees on the rocks.  :(

Another view from one of our hikes.

The last good meal we had.  Our waiter took this picture of us and our pizzas.
