Krakow, Poland

St. Mary's cathedral off the Rynek Glowny (Main Marketplace) square.    The square is rather large, with the Cloth Hall market building in the center.  VIDEO  3.3 MB or, a nice PANORAMIC view of the square.

As I wrote to some of you, this altar (done poor justice here) is the single most impressive thing I have seen on all my travels.  The wood carved statues are quite large, and make up the oldest Gothic altar in the World.  The altar was dismantled by the Nazis and luckily rediscovered by Allied forces at the war's end.

There was some kind of bicycling event going on, including people riding "old timey" bikes.  VIDEO   1.9 MB

Strange wildlife in Poland.  yuk yuk

We spent some nice time this bank of the Vistula, smoking cheap cigarettes (~$1.25/pack), and watching near collisions between bikers and walkers on the narrow sidewalk.

Dave and Charissa burning down Krakow at night.

Climbing the steps to Sigismund's Bell in the Wawel Cathedral, next to the Wawel caste (sorry, no pics of the castle).

Sigismund's Bell.

The view from the bell tower.

This picture is slightly out of order as we ate this meal when we returned to Krakow a few days later to get on the overnight train to Budapest.  In the foreground is what I had, which was a rolled up turkey cutlet with cheese inside, and then deep fried.  Mighty tasty.  Dave, Dan, and Julia also enjoyed their dinner at this recommended place.
